Dear Ben:
You have been gone from our presence for almost two months and I can't
tell you how much I miss you. You came into my life 25 years ago and
brought me much happiness. I loved your beautiful spirit and happy ways.
Just to be honest I loved everything about you and I miss you more than
I can say.

When I was wrapping christmas presents last week I accidently put your
name on one of Nick's presents.
If you see Grandpa Grose in your present living place say hello for
me. Your Grandpa was crazy about you.

Ben loved, of course, anything to do with Superman.
He loved and served God his whole life.
Ben loved food - all kinds of food, his favorites were pizza, Mexican,
and especially Grandma's Cheese Log - she always made it special just
for him.
My niece, HollySue, said the phrase that comes to mind about Ben is
"blessed be the peacemakers", for that is what Ben was, a
peacemaker.
Ben was a gentle soul. He was always so grateful for anything we gave
him. He was also very forgiving. I never heard Ben be unkind to anyone.
He loved politics and religion, but did not like to be confrontational
with anyone. He did not want to offend anyone.
He didn't like tomatoes (we were always sure to ask him if he wanted
tomatoes on his sandwich), cucumbers, mushrooms, or seafood.
He didn't like people to be negative.
Ben was the best of our family, loving, giving, gentle, & kind.
I always knew Ben loved me as much as I loved him. I will miss him and
look forward to seeing him one day.

I first met Ben in 1991 at the MDA Summer Camp in Boulder Creek, CA.
We shared cabins many times over the years at various camps and those
times I remember very well. He would share his seemingly infinite knowledge
of Superman and we would laugh about even the simplest of things. His
uplifting spirit was ever-present in all activities. Outside of camp,
Ben, myself, and friends visited each other at parties and get-togethers.
In 1997 my family moved to Washington State and while I wasn’t
able to attend summer camp with him or visit him in person, I still
kept in contact with him through e-mail and instant messages. After
we were beyond camp going years and I had moved back to California we
were finally able to see each other in person once again. Through friend’s
birthday parties and get-togethers we reminisced about camp and talked
about life. These are memories I will never forget.
Ben was a very strong person who never gave up on life. The things
he endured health wise were things most people couldn't withstand. I
will remember him as someone always content with life and if something
was bothering him you couldn't tell. It's hard to see him go so soon
and I wish I would have seen him more often but I also know where he
is now and we all will be there someday.
I was treasured to know him and his enduring spirit will live on in
our hearts and minds.

In Loving Memory of Ben Grose
1979-2004
Did you ever notice that when Ben was in a photo he
brightened it up? I don’t know if it was his bright smile or his
spirit shining through. I always thought that he had a special humbleness
and appreciation of life. He never complained or let anyone worry if
things were not going so good. At the same time, I saw a sense of strength
and determination throughout all the difficulties that he endured.
I have learned through Ben’s example to try to
live my life with even more strength and determination. I will never
forget his wise attitude about life. His strength may not have been
that of the man of steel, but in spiritual being it was.
As his comic book hero, Superman could do, I know he
can now soar above in heaven and will be there for all of us in spirit.
I will always remember the special times we spent together, especially
those many fun years at MDA summer camp, and our many discussions on
the latest tribulations of Superman. I like the fact Ben lived in the
present, and not in the past or future. This uniqueness was one of a
kind and surely will be missed.
Thank you Ben; you will be my best friend forever. I
know you are with the Lord, and one day we shall find each other once
more. Be in peace my dearest friend. Be in peace and God bless.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF BEN GROSE
For as long as I can remember, Ben and I have been friends. We have
shared many good times and have had lots of fun. My fondest memory of
him was when we were at Ronald McDonald camp together. He was in the
cabin next to mine. He was one of the kindest people I had ever met.
I saw him regularly at the family support group meetings and had fun
talking and visiting with him, especially when the little kids got rowdy
and hard to tolerate.
I especially liked it when Ben came to the "Rolling Buddies Spring
Party" at my house. We played video games for hours and had a blast.
During the last years of Ben's life I witnessed him go through a lot
of hardships, but despite this Ben never gave up and didn't complain
about his situation. He just kept chugging along with a true "warrior
spirit".
Though Ben has gone from this world, his spirit lives on in all of
those who remember him and he will live on through our experiences.
I will never forget Ben and I will always cherish the time I had with
him on this earth. Though life is short, memories live forever and for
as long as I live, I will remember my buddy and best friend Ben.

I was very saddened to hear that Benjamin passed away. As webmaster
of Fanzing.com, a site to which he contributed, I was happy to know
Ben and I'm shocked to discover that he is no longer with us.
Upon hearing about his death, I posted the news to Monitor Duty. Many
of us liked Ben and we'll miss him terribly.
